Newspaper and magazine advertisements of the collection by its original, 1884 UK publisher Longmans state: "With Frontispiece by G. Du Maurier and Initial Letters by the Author."
At least the first initial letter by Anstey is unusually large and elaborate; signed "F.A." (page 1). That is a line drawing of the black poodle, star of the title story, who is also featured in the frontispiece by George du Maurier.
It's likely that Anstey self-illustrated other written works in the database.
