Note: In the second edition of 1849, this brief second Preface follows the original Preface, revised. It closes on two lines, "C. C." (flushright) and "December 12th, 1848." Its translation "Vorrede zur zweiten Auflage" is the only preliminary essay in the 1849 German translation of the second edition by Carl Kolb (see at ISFDB). Closing: "London, 12. December 1848." and "C. C." The 1850 US edition contains only the unrevised original Preface (see).

Synopsis: Crowe thanks correspondents and states that "narratives I should like to have given in this edition" are reserved "for some future occasion." (The future occasion may be 1859 collection Ghosts and Family Legends.)
