Note:
Rappaport does not say a word about the translation of Peter Schlemihl that follows, which the 1913 book does not credit and does not identify as new.
(Rappoport should be considered a candidate translator, but the essay does not suggest it.)
In the 1913 anthology and Gutenberg ebook, the "Introduction by Dr.A.S.Rappoport" (per title page), pp. vii-xiv, closes "A. S. Rappoport." and "Berck-Plage, September, 1913". It is biographical with a few pages --at the chronological place of composition, 1814-- about the work whose translation it introduces; that is, the work, throughout Chamisso's lifetime.
