Note: First published in the magazine Slant, Spring 1950 as by "Geoffrey Cobbe". That fanzine's table of contents mistakenly credits it as "The Swordsman of Varnis" by "Geoffrey Cobb".
Synopsis: A Lord and Lady of Mars ride to the ruined temple, where they can hope to hold off the horde of swordsmen who pursue them until the mystical powers which exist within the temple can be released.
