- Published as a 4-part serial St. Nicholas vol XII, no 2-5 (Dec 1884 to Mar 1885), from p. 93, as by Charles Carryl; "(Illustrated by E.B. Bensell)" per volume contents, some drawings legibly signed (E)B. Newspaper advertisements of the February 1885 magazine by the publisher highlight two continuations, one being (quote) "Davy and the Goblin", the very funny "Alice-in-Wonderland" story (unquote).
- First published as a book by Ticknor & Co. of Boston for the 1885 Christmas season.
- Late 19th- and early 20th-century hardcover publications of this text ran to about 160 pages, but the story contains only 26,100 words (from Microsoft Word count of the Project Gutenberg edition) and is therefore a novella and not a novel. In the 160-page 1913 ed. the story text spans pp. 11-160 and some minority of the 32 listed interior illustrations are reproduced full-page on plates(?) that are included in the pagination. (HathiTrust provides full view of two printings. Gutenberg represents page numbers in the right margin of the html format.)
Synopsis: (quote)
Davy is a small boy who goes to sleep over "Alice's Adventures" and takes thereupon "A Believing Voyage" with a friendly member of the Goblin family.
