Note: A translation from the French "L'œil invisible ou L'auberge des trois pendus" in Les contes populaires, Hetzel, 1866; first published in L'Artiste, 1857.
Synopsis: An artist takes a room in the garret of an inn, where several patrons have hanged themselves. He comes to believe they are induced to do so by the spells of the old woman who lives across the road, and turns the tables on her.
