Note:
Original Version appeared in 1904 in "Twenty Five Ghost Stories" Edited by W. Bob Holland. That version had an American Setting and was possibly reprinted in that form in the 'Perma Book of Ghost Stories'.
The original anthology was later expanded in 1941 by the addition of 'The Haunted Hotel' and was released as 'The Haunted Hotel by Wilkie Collins and 25 Ghost Stories'. In the revised Anthology this story has an English setting. The English setting version was later reprinted in "Upon the Midnight". Also various later reprintings of the 'Haunted Hotel and 25 Ghost Stories' are presumed to use the English Setting.
