DAW Books is a publisher in New York, NY, USA. DAW was founded in November 1971 by Donald A. Wollheim and his wife Elsie Wollheim. In 1985, their daughter Betsy Wollheim became president, and as of 2022 runs it with Sheila E. Gilbert. Although distributed by Penguin Group (USA), and being headquartered in their offices, DAW Books was owned and operated independently. In July 2022, it was announced would be acquired by Astra Publishing House, a US division of the Chinese Thinkingdom Media Group.
