Note: Part One of this novel first appeared in Orbit 15 (1974) as the novella "Where Late the Sweet Birds Sang", and retains that title in the novel. Part Two is titled "Shenandoah" and Part Three is "At the Still Point". The novel is comprised of 28 chapters in three parts, and an Epilogue.
