Welcome!

Hello, CarrieCuinn, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!Kraang 03:09, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

Title record links

I have removed the link to the Amazon listing which you added to this record because we don't use the Web Page field to link to a sales website. The publication record is already linked to outside websites (under the left-side "Other Sites" menu.) It's OK to use that field to link to the actual work, as you did here. Thanks for contributing. Ordering author/editor credit

Unfortunately, the ISFDB software is unable to give the stated order of credit for the author/editor of a work. Your submission to order the credits in this record was accepted, but you can see it didn't change how the credits are displayed. Sorry. Mhhutchins 17:37, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

Thanks anyway! I'm still learning the system, and I hope my future updates are more useful. CarrieCuinn

Women and Other Constructs

Hi. I handled your submissions for changes to Women and Other Constructs. The first one, where you tried to make the one entry reflect both the print and ebook, wasn't right. I saw you made a second submission just updating the ebook info. That was fine. So I rejected the first one and accepted the second. By the way, if you make a submission and decide after the fact that you aren't happy with it, you can cancel it (go to My Pending Edits, and you can click on it and then cancel).

As for your question, yes, the print edition ($5.99. ISBN-10: 1490538097 ISBN-13: 978-1490538099 Product Dimensions: 8 x 5 x 0.2 inches) should be a separate entry. You can do that without a lot of work by going to the ebook entry and picking "Clone This Pub" from the Editing Tools list. Then change anything that's not the same as for the ebook (price, binding (which would be "tp", not "print"), ISBN, etc.). This will get reviewed by a moderator when you submit it, too, so you don't need to worry about making mistakes. And if you need any help, just ask. --MartyD 11:01, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

Thanks, Marty! The ebook should be $1.99, though, instead of $2.99. I'll make the print clone now. CarrieCuinn

Cthulhurotica

I accepted the submission to change the publication date of this record, under the assumption that you are the editor and can provide the correct date. I removed the cover art credit for Galen Dara. We only credit the cover artist in the Artist field. Interior art is credited as a content record. Please do a primary verification of the record when you get a chance. Thanks for contributing. Mhhutchins 04:00, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

I also corrected the date of the title record and rewrote the synopsis to be more objective. Mhhutchins 04:02, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

Amazon has the date correct here: http://www.amazon.com/Cthulhurotica-ebook/dp/B004GKMID2/ref=sr_1_1_title_0_main?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1377665062&sr=1-1&keywords=cthulhurotica CarrieCuinn

Dagan Books

You may not have noticed, but I've been rejecting your submissions to change the publisher from "Dagan Books" to "Dagan Books, LLC". It is standard ISFDB practice to regularize the names of publishers in order for all of their books to appear under one listing in the database. We usually drop such endings as "Publishers", "Company", "Inc." etc. So "Harper & Row, Publishers" is simply "Harper & Row", "Doubleday & Co." is "Doubleday", "Penguin Books Inc." is "Penguin Books", etc. Occasionally a book will sneak in with an odd configuration of the publisher's name, but we try to make them conform as much as possible. Because the first titles from Dagan were published as just "Dagan Books", it should continue to have that name in the database. Any books published after the name change ("Dagan Books, LLC") can be entered as published, but be aware that it will split the titles into two different listings and there's no way to have all of them displayed under one listing. That's how databases work. Thanks. Mhhutchins 04:46, 28 August 2013 (UTC)

Bibliotheca Fantastica

Your submission to add a publication record for this title has been in the submission queue for a while because of a number of problems which I will explain here. I will accept the submission and make the following changes. Please keep these in mind when making future submissions:

  • The publication date was changed to "2013-07-10" based on the Amazon listing which you linked in your note to the moderator.
  • Currency symbol was added to the price field (this is a requirement).
  • The link to the cover image was changed to the image on Amazon. We do not have permission from that publisher's website to link to their files. Our records pull data from the hosting files, using their bandwidth and not ours. Some hosting servers frown on this method of linking so we must have explicit permission to do it.
  • Generically titled essays, such as "Introduction", must be disambiguated by adding the title of the work being introduced parenthetically.
  • The biggest problem: most of the content stories had the title in the author field and the author credit in the title field. I used the "Look Inside" on the Amazon listing to fix these. I also removed the quotation marks from the titles. They should only be used if it was the author's intention that they be part of the title. Except for the story by Hirons, they don't appear to be in these cases.
  • The names of authors with two initials were entered without a space after the first period and before the next letter, e.g. "S.J. Hirons" should be entered as "S. J. Hirons".

If you have any questions about the changes I've made to this record, please respond here. If you need help for further submissions as at the ISFDB:Help desk. Thanks. Mhhutchins 15:16, 16 September 2013 (UTC)

I removed the quote from the introduction given in the synopsis field. A synopsis should be impartial and objective.
Also, I found something odd: Amazon's listing of the trade paperback edition of this anthology credits Claude Lalumière as co-editor. Is this wrong? Mhhutchins 15:30, 16 September 2013 (UTC)
The TP listing doesn't include Claude Lalumière now. He was originally contracted to work on the project but dropped out, and Amazon took forever to update our information.
You can find the cover art here: [1] (full print cover) or here [2] (front-only cover). I own them and they're hosted on the publisher site, so you have permission to use them. Thank you for your help; I don't know how I got the titles/names switched, since I didn't make that mistake on other submissions, but I'll keep an eye out for that. CarrieCuinn
We must have permission to deep link to the website, not the permission of the owner of the image. Can you speak in behalf of the website's owner and authorize us to deep link to the website's image, drawing bandwidth from its server? Mhhutchins 18:12, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

Lakeside Circus

I've accepted the submission to add this publication, but have made the following changes. Please keep these in mind when making future submissions.

  • Title field: Titles of periodicals should give the date of the issue or issue number, whatever is stated in the publication. Based on the website information, I changed the title to "Lakeside Circus: Shortfiction and Other Oddities, Issue One". If this is not correct, please update the record.
  • Publication date field: This should give the full date if known. Again, based on the website info, I changed it to "2013-11-29".
  • Pub format field: Webzines, with few exceptions, are not eligible for the database. Electronic publications which are downloadable and readable on various ebook readers (Kindle, Nook, etc) are eligible and entered as "ebook" in the pub field.
  • Price field: Changed "$6" to "$6.00". The full price including decimals must be given.
  • Image URL field: I had to remove the link you gave to the website's banner. It was too large, it wasn't the actual "cover image" of the publication, and it was on a website for which we have not received permission to deep link. Feel free to upload the issue's cover following the guidelines for file uploads, and then link the file to the publication record. (Use the "upload cover scan" link on the publication record.)

Also, please add the contents to the record when you get a chance. Thanks. Mhhutchins 18:10, 22 October 2013 (UTC)

Updating author data

I had to reject the submission to update this author's data.

  • The legal name field was given in the wrong format. It should be "Lastname, Firstname Middlename" (or initial, and only if known).
  • Author photo field was linked to a website for which we don't have permission. I can't stress this enough. And it must be a good likeness of the author. The image linked was rather obscure.

I'll make the correction in the legal name field, add the birthdate, and update the data. Thanks. Mhhutchins 18:18, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
