The Insignia Series

Hi, and welcome. I have a question for you about the Insignia series. The ISFDB has two different concepts of "series". There is a "title series", where all of the works in the series share something in common (universe, theme, etc.), and the titles would still be in the same series regardless of who published them. And there is a "publication series", where books are arbitrarily grouped by the publisher and assigned some label, and the grouping and label would likely not be used by a different publisher publishing the same works.

For "The Insignia Series", we have a mix of both of those. There's a rather incomplete title series, The Insignia Series, and a more complete publication series, The Insignia Series. One of these two treatments is inappropriate, but which one? If you tell me which is the appropriate treatment, I can fix them (or you are welcome to do so if you'd like). Thanks for your message. I was a bit confused about the different options for listed series'. I think a publication series listing is better because the books are all standalone anthologies but 'The Insignia Series' is my label and wouldn't be used by another publisher. All set. They were all in the publisher series. I removed the two that were in the title series and deleted that. It's easy enough to change if we want it to be different. You can also edit The Insignia Series if you'd like to include a link or notes. I did notice #1, Japanese Fantasy Stories is the only one you have not marked as primary-verified. --MartyD 23:12, 23 July 2018 (EDT)

I apologize for the delay. I was away for a few days. To verify an existing publication record, visit that record (e.g., go to Japanese Fantasy Stories), and in the "Editing Tools" section at the left (about 2/3 of the way down -- you will have to scroll to find it), you will see "Verify This Pub". That will get you to this screen. The top section is for when you have the publication -- "Permanent" means you own it and will be able to answer questions about it; "Transient" means you only have it temporarily and will not be able to answer questions about it. The bottom section is used if you can find the publication in the various secondary bibliographic sources; it is normal for most, or all, of the ones on the bottom to be "not verified". --MartyD 11:37, 28 July 2018 (EDT)

Insignia: Asian Birds & Beasts

I accepted your addition of Insignia: Asian Birds & Beasts, but made some changes to comply with ISFDB standards:

  • I changed the format to ebook (vs. unknown).
  • I removed the page count as we don't use that field for ebooks (though you are welcome to add the equivalent page count to the pub notes if you wish).
  • I added the $ symbol to the price field as we deal in multiple currencies.
  • I edit the Amazon image URL to remove content after the underscore as this provides a better image.

We do appreciate your submission. ISFDB has some conventions that need learning, but everything should be in the help links in the welcome message above. We hope you will continue to contribute. Insignia anthologies

Thanks for adding these to the database! It would be very useful if you could also fill in the lengths of the stories (short story is up to 7500 words, novelette is 7500-17,500, novella is longer); among other things, that'll help anyone who wants to nominate these stories for awards. As per our standard I transformed the publication series into a title series: The name 'Insignia' seems to be invented by you, so this is in line with other original anthology series like 'Orbit' (Damon Knight) or 'Synergy' (George Zebrowski). Thanks, Stonecreek 10:43, 17 June 2019 (EDT)
