Welcome!

Hello, Yannis1962, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!.--Dirk P Broer 06:12, 2 January 2020 (EST)

Les Langages de Pao

Hi, I have to reject your submission, as the 1993 edition is translated as you correctly state by Elisabeth Gille. As such, this edition should be cloned from the 1965 edition, and not from a later Brigitte Mariot translated one. Also, for a 1993 you have to use ISBN-10 2-207-30083-8, not an ISBN-13 with '978' added in front.--Dirk P Broer 08:16, 2 January 2020 (EST)

Thanks. I have two problems: the first one concerns the ISBN number. On the book backcover there are two different numbers: 9782207300831 (under the barcode) and 2207300838 (underneath), so I don't know which one is the correct last digit (1 or 8). Also I would like to submit a new cover page but I don't know how to add the cover page when editing the book data (when I click on the "Cover" button I get another artist name field…)

Urania #364

I had to reject this submission. You changed the existing entries and then added new entries that were the same as the existing entries. This would cause problems since the existing entries are varianted. You need to resubmit, leaving the existing entries alone, and adding the new entries. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 19:11, 10 November 2020 (EST)

If I had just added entries they would not be in the right order, so I had to move the previous down to keep page order. I'm really tired of spending time to have something done accurately and then get refused, I wonder how you managed to have such a rich database by turning everybody's changes down, or is it just me? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Yannis1962 (talkcontribs) .
When page numbers are entered, the display is ordered by page number. Adding the new entries with their page numbers will result in them being ordered correctly. Had I accepted your entry, it would have created errors in the database. For example, you changed Le date maledette (shortfiction) by Miriam Allen de Ford into "BC" (interior art) by Johnny Hart. However, "Le date maledette" is a translation of The 1980 President. Your edit would have caused the BC artwork to show up as a translation of "The 1980 President" story. That would be incorrect. To keep it a rich database, we have to reject edits that would cause problems. The database has some complexities in how things work. Most things are pretty straightforward, but when entries are variants (translations, etc.) there can be issues like this. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 06:41, 11 November 2020 (EST)

L’enchanteur

Hello,

I approved your submission but had to do a few changes:

  • 1990 book cannot have an ISBN13 so used the ISBN10 instead (plus the ISBN13 was incorrect - it was just he ISBN10 with 978 attached to it)
  • The catalog ID is an abbreviated form of the ISBN and we do not record this for this series. So removed "A 37841".
  • When the price is not defined and is based on categories, we leave the price field empty (or add just the currency symbol) and add the note for the category in the notes.
  • We have no permission to link to http://www.fluxus-virus.com/fichiers/enchanteur-cover.jpg for the cover so I had to remove it. You can upload it to our DB (this one is too big to upload or I would have) or you can link to it from one of our permitted sources.

Can you confirm three things for me:

  • Where is the exact publishing date come from? As it is rarely printed in a book, we add a note on where it comes from in the notes
  • Is the book a small paperback (18 cm or smaller)?
  • The ISBN (2-07-037841-1) belongs to Gallimard usually so can you confirm the book is really published by Denoël?

The result is here. Let me know if you have any questions and/or concerns. Annie 12:29, 17 November 2020 (EST)
