Rev. Columbus Bradford became somewhat infamous in 1901 for his book "Birth: A New Chance". He was a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and this book was viewed as heresy because it teaches a doctrine equivalent to reincarnation. As a consequence, Rev. Bradford was deposed by church authorities from his pastorate at Okawville, Ill., charges were levied against him, and a heresy trial was averted only through a jurisdictional technicality.[1]
