Shirley Frances Barker, author, editor, and librarian was born in Farmington, N.H. in 1911. She graduated from the University of New Hampshire and later received masters degrees in both English and Library Science. She wrote essays, poems, short stories, and novels and was a staff member of the Towle Writers Conference at the University of New Hampshire from 1938 to 1940. She was also editorial assistant for New Hampshire Profiles magazine.[1]
