Welcome!

Hello, Flax, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! --~ Bill, Bluesman 00:26, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

Jon Wallace

I can see now after the follow-up submissions that you are trying to separate entries from one author's bibliography page and put them into a second page of another author with the same name. The first submission, which I accepted in part, unfortunately does not do what you want it to. By changing the author data, a second author is not created. The only way to do that is to take any one of the contents that match the Jon Wallace (1954-) and change what's there to that author name. Then the second author with the (1954-) appendage will be created. When I saw the first submission I didn't realize what you were attempting, thus edited it slightly [the presentation of the date of birth would have given all zeroes 0000-00-00 as the only format the software accepts is year-month-day]. Now, that data is part of the original Jon Wallace author data [easily reversed, not to worry]. My question is: which author has the larger number of entries? If it's Jon Wallace [without the appendage] then I'll change the author data as is and it will take fewer edits to remove the other works [by Jon Wallace (1954-)]. If it's the other way round, then it would be easier to append (1954-) to the existing record, change one entry to Jon Wallace and move those records. I'm not sure I've even made this clear to myself??¿¿?? Let me know the scope of what you want to accomplish and we'll get it done! Cheers! --~ Bill, Bluesman 00:37, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi Bill, thanks for your help, (and I hope I'm doing this right). Background. I've reviewed books for a lot of years for the BSFA. After a hiatus, I googled myself (who doesn't!) and discovered some upstart had the temerity to be a published author with MY name :). When I stumbled on isfdb I (obviously) checked myself out. Only to find that both HIS and my stuff had become linked! I thought I'd try to fix it myself, and jumped in too quickly :( . Long story short. The shortfiction belongs to the other Jon Wallace. Everything below that is mine (Jon Wallace(1954-) as I suppose I'll have to reconcile myself to becoming. At least there's no date after the dash...) Flax 16:05, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
Simple enough! Have removed the two shortfiction pieces to [Jon Wallace] and you now have [the rest]! As you can see I moved your response back to your Talk page as it's easier to keep a discussion in one place than jump back and forth. You'll also notice I put a space between your last name and the first bracket containing the date. Hopefully we have all your work listed, if not please fill in the rest! If you can find any data on the other you we could append a date to his name and you could have yours back!! After all, you are the senior twin.... ;-) and we old guys need to stick together! Your birth year is the same as my youngest brother. Cheers! --~ Bill, Bluesman 16:19, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
