Nature magazine entries

Nature would be considered a non-genre magazine in our system. We have some special standards for non-genre magazine. Our intent is to minimize the documentation of such magazines with the focus being on the spec-fic content contained within them. Based upon that the editor should be entered as "Editors of Nature". Other issues concerning the Feb 1,2006 issue:

  • Magazine date: This appears to be the February 1, 2006 issue of a weekly magazine. If so, the title should be entered as "Nature, February 1, 2006" and the "Year" entered as 2006-02-01.
  • Pages: 632 is listed as the number of pages. Since this is scientific journal I am assuming the the page numbers are on a volume rather than issue basis. The page count should be the number of internal pages plus four pages for the covers. Since this is a non-genre magazine this is not a critical piece of data and it is alright not to enter a value in this field.
  • Binding: We have a limited number of suggested values: A search for Pub Format in New Pub Help will get you to a list of appropriate values. The size 'quarto' (8x10 to 8.5x10.5) is not there yet but soon will be. The actual story ended up with a date of 0000-00-00 which probably indicates that an invalid value was entered there. For new content you do not need to enter a date; the date from the pub will be used if no value is entered.

The other entry is very similar so the same comments would apply. You can answer on this page. As soon as I hear from you I will approve the submissions and modify them to fit our standards. Thanks.--swfritter 15:02, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

I approved the submissions and made some changes based upon data from the Nature website. We already had a couple of other issues. I kept the Henry Gee credit because he has some entries in the database. Feel free to either apprise me of any changes that should be made or you can enter them yourself. Thanks.--swfritter 16:03, 14 February 2010 (UTC)

While you are here

I noticed that we have a limited amount of author data. On the above page, you can use the Edit Author Data option from Editing Tools to add data. Although we have a Biography option we generally try to limit the data there; we prefer to depend on other sites which specialize in that sort of thing. Thanks.--swfritter 16:14, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
