The Blue World

Hello, I've rejected your submission as the credit to Di Fate seems dubious. There is probably a confusion with the latter (1977) cover for the same novel that is attested. The other bibliographies of Vance do not support this credit nor does Weinberg's dictionnary of artists. Note that a 1966 publication date would be very early in Di Fate 's career (this will predate his first known sf work by more that three years). Hauck 04:02, 20 March 2018 (EDT)

A Scent of New-Mown Hay

Hello,

I approved the edit for your verified A Scent of New-Mown Hay but did a few changes after that:

  • Moved the OCLC number in the new External fields. I suspect that the OCLC number was already there when you verified the work so when you see one of those, can you please remove it from the notes and instead use the External ID fields under the Notes Field. We are in the progress of slowly migrating all the old notes into the new fields and any help is appreciated.
  • We do not need a "br" tag at the start of each line anymore. I cleaned all but the first one (the first one is needed if you do not want the first comment line to be on the same line as the label of the field).

Hello, I've put your submission on hold as your book is very likely this one. It's best that you take the PV spot and update this publication instead of probably having two 1st 1976 Futura prinings. Usually, it's best to "take over" an unverified publication that nearly matches yours as the data given is sometimes sketchy or downright false. Hauck 08:10, 24 March 2018 (EDT)

Swords Against Death

Hello,

When adding titles like "Introduction", "Author's Introduction" and other similar common titles, you should add the name of the publication in brackets after the name. This way you do not end up with 20 essays on the author page with the name "Introduction" :) I've done this in Swords Against Death. Thanks for adding the missing titles in it. Thanks for the tip. I am still getting used to this interface alas. I believe a couple of these were previously published so had planned to go double check, but I was filling out the title page for this book so wasn't sure what comes first. I am now guessing I should have found the "intro" in the older book, and then added a new link for the new edition, and then edited in the page number in the new book? I'll get it eventually... If it was previously published you can go one of two ways:
  • Add it and when approved, it can be merged or varianted into the original title
  • Import from the older title
Please note that if they were published under different names or if both are called Introduction but in different books, they need to be varianted and not merged. :) Do not hesitate to ask when you have questions - we all started at some point and most people here will be very happy to answer any questions. Cautionary Tales

What is the source for the cover artist credit you are adding? As you didn't verify the publication, I'm assuming it is not from the publication. You gave the page number for the first essay as "(xi)". If this was meant as an unnumbered page, unnumbered pages are entered with brackets (ex "[xi]"). However, since it is part of a numbered range (the next essay is entered as ix), we simply record the derived numbered vs. marking it as unnumbered. One of our little oddities. well, publishing seems to have lots of personal editiorial choices after all, so appropriate for this group to have its own style guide. I'll get it eventually.

Since we're talking small details, this edition does not list "A word of caution" in the toc nor any of the story afterwords, presumably because they are less than a page. The Tiptree intro does not have a page number on it (nor do any of the stories, presumably because it would clutter the page) but it carries over onto page x and is listed in the toc as page ix. There is no xi printed on "A Word of Caution" (or a xii on the back for that matter).

Hello! Regarding the page numeration, please take a look into the help section (especially the second bullet point on Roman numerals).
Regarding contents: we don't use the table of contents, but refer to the body of a publication: quite often there are items that are erroneously spelled, or not included at all there. To cite: Caution: Do not use the table of contents to determine the page numbers of a publication's contents. Enter content page data by going through the publication and entering the numbers which are printed on the pages on which contents begin. Thanks, Stonecreek 05:04, 22 March 2019 (EDT)

Image Uploading

Cover image uploading is a two step process. Once you have uploaded a cover to the wiki, you need to click on the image (so you get just the image), copy that URL, and then edit the publication to add the URL to the publication.
