Welcome!

Hello, OstrichSack, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Stonecreek 08:46, 14 January 2018 (EST)

Your submissions for adding cover artists

Hello, and welcome again! I have put your submissions on hold, as there is no source given with them. Alas, we have had mistakenly stated artists in the past by other editors and have begun to play it more safe. I hope you understand.(It'd be enough to state your sources right here). Stonecreek 08:54, 14 January 2018 (EST)

I've also put the one for adding to V. C. Andrews' Hemel Zonder Engelen on hold. Again, you give no source, and the art differs from the one for the original Heaven by the same artist. Stonecreek 04:17, 16 January 2018 (EST)
If you own a copy of the 1985 first printing of Heaven's Pocket Books edition, you are invited to primary verify the publication. Thanks, Stonecreek 04:29, 16 January 2018 (EST)

On David Mann's Facebook account they list some paperback covers he did, David Mann Covers.

The Heaven cover art is really behind the cover, they did that thing where a piece is cut out so you see behind it like a window. The Hemel Zonder Engelen cover is that without the original cover in the way. --OstrichSack 13:05, 16 January 2018 (EST)
Thank you for the information. I'll approve of your submissions and notify the primary verifiers for you. Stonecreek 00:00, 17 January 2018 (EST)
You are also adding two credits for William Teason. What is the source for those? -- JLaTondre (talk) 08:29, 17 January 2018 (EST)

His signature is on the covers. --OstrichSack 00:47, 18 January 2018 (EST)

Thanks! I have accepted the edits & added the source. If you have a copy of these publications, please consider verifying them. We do appreciate you having found these credits. -- JLaTondre (talk) 17:08, 18 January 2018 (EST)

Rebels of the Red Planet / 200 Years to Christmas

Hello, I've put your submission on hold. A blog is not an enough reliable source and Corrick explicitely states that the cover is by an "Emsh Imitator". Note also that the cover is not signed as is usual with Emsh. Have you any additional proof for this attribution? Thanks. Hauck 08:54, 23 January 2018 (EST)

The Moon is Hell / The Green World

Hi, I replaced the cover scan of this publication to one that shows both titles. All credits are where they belong to.--Dirk P Broer 02:58, 24 January 2018 (EST)

Banshee

I have rejected your edit to Banshee once again. As stated in the original rejection, we credit as stated in the pub and this pub is primary verified. I've already updated the Lasser entry to add the full name, but the credit would remain just Lasser. If you believe the pub actually credited it as Ron Lasser, than you should ask the primary verifier to double check that. -- JLaTondre (talk) 18:04, 24 January 2018 (EST)

Sorry, I sent the second one because I accidentally put Ron Lasser, his name is Ron Lesser. --OstrichSack 18:14, 24 January 2018 (EST)

Ah, missed that. Okay, likely a typo based on a signature then. I've updated the publication and left a note for the primary verifier. He's not active that often, but when he checks, if it turns out it really was "Lasser" in the publication, I will revert and then establish a pseudonym. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 18:22, 24 January 2018 (EST)

Secondary Sources

When adding information based on secondary sources, it would be appreciated if you listed the source in the publication notes. So for example, with the recent Tom Hallman covers, I added "Cover artist credit per artist's website" to each of the pub notes for the covers credits you added. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 22:01, 30 January 2018 (EST)

Watchers in the Woods

Hello, I've put some of your submissions on hold that intended changes to the title series. I've approved those for the "The Devil" series and for the "Cats" (changed to "Cat (Johnstone)" to disambiguate it from Vinge's) based on this site. For the others, this is more problematic as, for example you're proposing a "Johnstone's Wolf" series that is not on the site and regroups books listed in different categories. What is the source of your data? Hauck 04:58, 2 February 2018 (EST)

Here, I don't think the first book has anything to do with the other two, but they're put together. If you want to take "Wolfsbane" out, "Hunted" & "Prey" do go together, and that series is called "Ransom".
For the "Satan Influenced" books Here & Here. "Wolfsbane" is in this one and a book by Johnstone called "Blood Oath" that I didn't see on the isfdb site.
All these sources are either very old (the wiki page is dated 2006) or haphazard. Kobo and a kindle list are usually not bibliographic references. I'll stick to what Johnstone's site says (at least it's recent). I've rejected your submissions. On a more general note, there is now a tendency to put everything and the rest into series that is not (IMHO) very interesting. Hauck 01:41, 3 February 2018 (EST)

Artist credits

Hello, I've approved your batch of cover credits. To simplify things, you can put your source (e.g. "signature on cover") directly in the "Note" field of the publication instead of in the "Notes to Moderator" field, this will save us one step (the moderator will not have to copy the source in the proper field). Note also that you may wish to "source" a bit more your edits (e.g. the price updates comes from the scan, or so I suppose, but this is not readily apparent). Thanks for adding data in an area which is not our forte. Hauck 05:26, 4 February 2018 (EST)

Cover image for The Day After Tomorrow

Hi, I have put your submission on hold. What is your source for assigning this image to the printing (which seems to be unidentified)? Stonecreek 00:51, 12 February 2018 (EST)

It matches the ISBN, Price, & Publisher. --OstrichSack 01:42, 12 February 2018 (EST)
