Welcome!

Hello, Wcouvillier, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Hauck 08:48, 9 March 2017 (UTC)

Abaculus 2007

Hello, I'm sorry to have to reject your submission. It would have created a new record for an-already existing one here. As it seems that you intend to add the contents, just go at publication page the same one and use the Edit This Pub link on the left. This will allow you to enter the contents. Note that we regularize the names of the authors with a space between initials so "W.D. Wilcox" (that would create a "new" author) will have to be entered as "W. D. Wilcox" which is already known to us. Thanks for contributing. Hauck 08:53, 9 March 2017 (UTC)

The Best of Heroic Fantasy Quarterly: Volume 1, 2009-2011

Hello, I've approved your submission but had to make some changes to conform to our standards:

  • Changed "J.S. Bangs" to "J. S. Bangs" (see above).
  • Added cover artist as per amazon look inside.
  • As the poem by "W. E. Couvillier" is likely the reason of this update, I've supposed that it's a pseudonym of "Willis Couvillier" and made the necessary changes.

I'm surprised that you set the length of Shadows From Firelight to "short story", at nearly 30 pages, it's more likely a novelette. BTW I'm curious to know where the lengths you gave come from.Hauck 12:25, 9 March 2017 (UTC)

I have corrected the title and (without a comment on your part) set the length to novelette again. Without your input we are bound to get along with what is (or seems) the most likely. Stonecreek 07:54, 13 March 2017 (UTC)

Fifth Voyage update

Hello, as this title appears in a primary verified publication, I had to put your submission on hold until you ask the primary verifier for clearance of this step. This is required per ISFDB etiquette. (Most often, it will be no problem, but the item was initially verified as a piece of shortfiction). Thanks, Stonecreek 15:12, 9 March 2017 (UTC)

I have rejected your submission as per the discussion on the primary verifier's talk page. Stonecreek 07:52, 13 March 2017 (UTC)

STONECREEK:

Regarding my suggested change to the work "Fifth Voyage", I cannot see how the adjustment can be rejected when I, under my byline of W. C. Roberts, am the author of the work and really do know what I wrote. It is a poem.

Not trying to violate any site rules or anything, but when an author comes around to update labels on their work,, that probably should be considered primary.

There's probably a misunderstanding between you. There is in this publication, a poem page 45 and an afterword page 136 which were wrongly given exactly the same title. Now the second item have been dismabiguated but it's probably that one that you wanted to change to a POEM. Hauck 14:23, 13 March 2017 (UTC)

I see it there now, the poem listed before the essay. My misunderstanding. My apologies.

Apex Magazine, December 2010

Apex Magazine, December 2010 already exists in the database. As such, I have rejected your addition. Apex is entered as an ebook magazine as it is sold as an ebook. A webzine would be something only on the web. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 21:44, 9 March 2017 (UTC)

Jame's Gunn's Ad Astra

I have your addition of Jame's Gunn's Ad Astra on hold. Webzines are only included (per our Rules of Acquisition if it is a SFWA eligible market or has been shortlisted for a major award. I don't see that this one qualifies. Please let me know if I'm missing something. -- JLaTondre (talk) 13:19, 14 March 2017 (UTC)

It doesn't appear to be either. It is a sad thing, it's a quality offering and it would be good to have the work's that it publishes added to the database. It is (as quoted from their "about page"), "We are a volunteer organization inspired by the Center for the Study of Science Fiction at the University of Kansas. We maintain an ongoing partnership with the CSSF’s educational outreach program, AboutSF." As such, it is very much embodies the genre. Wcouvillier 14:36, 14 March 2017 (UTC)

Polu Texni submissions

Hello, as per our policy only items that "has been shortlisted for a major award." are listed for websites. Can you confirm that all the texts in your recent submissions are in this case? Thanks. Hauck 08:20, 7 April 2017 (UTC)

Nope, totally unsure - however the full contents of earlier postings haven't, either - merely a single poem has been nominated for the Rhysling awards. And there is only one Polu Texni with no monthly issues - it is an ongoing websine with dated postings. All of the individual months can be easily copied to the earliest month version with the award notation and it would actually be more accurate.Wcouvillier 12:44, 7 April 2017 (UTC)
In this case, I'll reject the submissions as we do not index websites (bar the exception cited in the help). Note that I've cleaned up the contents of the "issues" that are present in the db. Hauck 12:52, 7 April 2017 (UTC)

Scifaikuest

Hello, as you correctly surmised, your submission is nearly useless without heavy doctoring. Because you're a new contributor, I'm going to make the changes but I strongly advise you to study the result and our help pages (see on top of this page) carefully before submitting again. The following needed corrections :

  • the title of the record should reflect the name and the publication date of the issue entered (if not so, all issues would be named Scifaikuest), I've set the title to Scifaikuest, August 2009.
  • the publication date that we use is the stated date so I've changed the date to simply "2009-08".
  • in order to be put in this grid, the title should be put in the correct title series (here "Scifaikuest").
  • I've set the binding to "pb" as per other issues, as you're stating that you own the publication, you should be able to determinate its format.
  • "1558-9730" is not a valid ISBN (it looks more like an ISSN), I've deleted it.
  • I've deleted the content of "PubSeries" where you put the publication date.
  • I've changed the author of The Staff of Scifaikuest from "publisher" to simply "uncredited".
  • I've changed the type of Editorial from EDITOR (used only for a whole magazine record) to ESSAY and disambiguated it.
  • I've regularized "Aurelio Rico Lopez III" to "Aurelio Rico Lopez, III" as per our help pages if not, that would have created a "new" author.

The result is here.Hauck 14:29, 25 June 2017 (EDT)

Thank you. I will edit the entry to re-add the many poems that had been deleted from the error I got (no two editor entry). I have another 2009, and all of 2013 and 2014 issues I can get in, and I'll use this as a template guide for those. Wcouvillier 17:32, 25 June 2017 (EDT)
