Welcome!

Hello, Simsel, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Annie 12:41, 4 October 2019 (EDT)

Die ersten Zeitreisen

Hello and welcome again,

I am sorry but I had to reject your submission. What the request would have done would have changed our German record to a Swedish one and it is not what we want - the original is still in German. Instead you need to add a new Collection and then we will connect it to the German one as a variant.

Also - even though it is presented as a novel in Swedish, it will need to be recorded as a collection in the DB, with a note that it is presented as a novel. We have the same situation with Asimov's Foundation which is published as novel almost everywhere - we always record the translations with the type of the original.

Welcome again and let me know if I can help any further. Annie 12:45, 4 October 2019 (EDT)

You can respond to me here on your page. Look at the top of this message, far right. Do you see the Edit link. Press it. It will allow you edit and respond.
We manage translations by variants. So it is a 2 step process. You first add your Swedish book. Then once it is approved, you make its title a variant. I can do that for you now or I can give you an instruction so you can try - just let me know.
So let's take it step by step. Add the Swedish book. I will be around for the next few hours so I an approve immediatelly and work with you on the translation variant. :)

Based on the one you cancelled, a few tips:
  • We record this publisher as "Delta (Stockholm)"
  • When you add the Förord, make the title Förord (Baklänges genom tiden )
  • You do not need to add the series - it will show up when we connect to the original.
And do not worry. If you make a mistake, we can fix it post-approval :) So try :) Annie 19:59, 4 October 2019 (EDT)

Baklänges genom tiden

Third time is indeed a charm and that was extremely well done. A few small changes:

  • The dates of all contents items should be the first time they were published in Swedish, not the original 1977. I changed that to match your date on the publication
  • For the Foreword - is it spelled like that or is it just Förord? If it is just Förord, the policy is to make it Förord (Baklänges genom tiden).
  • What are the [,] in the titles? We record as written on the title page so if the commas are missing, we do not need them. :)
  • Is the foreword fictional or is it a real foreword? If the latter, it needs to be recorded as an essay.

The "Title note" in this case should contain information for the translator (using our template {{Tr|name here}}. So How to connect to the original:

  • Go to your newly created publication here and see where it says "Collection Title:". Click on the link there. It will lead you to what we call the reference title (or just the title record: here). Look in the left menu and find the "Make This Title a Variant" link and click on it.
  • Now find the German original (in a separate tab or do that first) and locate its reference title. In this case, it is this one. Copy that Title ID 1648922.
  • Back to the make variant page: Under Option 1, there is a field for "Parent #:". Paste the number we just found. Press "Link to Existing Parent"

When it is approved, it will create the link between them. And you need to do that for any translated novel, story, essay, collection and so on - title by title. Let me know if you have any questions Annie 15:30, 9 October 2019 (EDT):)
