Variant Title indicator

This review shows the title as “The Many Worlds of Poul Anderson [vt The Book of Poul Anderson].” I hit (edit) to see how the [vt] thing was done and learned it's “The Many Worlds of Poul Anderson^The Book of Poul Anderson.” Should this be documented as a standard ISFDB practice? It's certainly more convenient than adding a variant title record. Marc Kupper 23:19, 6 Dec 2006 (CST)

Actually, it's an artifact left over from ISFDB1 :) The ISFDB1-to-ISFDB2 conversion was supposed to change it to the current (more time consuming on the data entry side, but also much more robust) format, but it wasn't perfect. At some point we will need to write a script looking for these artifacts, so that we could manually change them. Ahasuerus 10:48, 7 Dec 2006 (CST)

Added Level 2 and 3 Headers

I added Level 2 and one level 3 headers to aid in page navigation. Other than one spelling error, no text was changed.Kevin 06:05, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

If these are going to stay, the various tempaltes should all be reworked a bit. They were created to be part of a look bulletted list, and not being part of such an over-all list anymore, there is a spuirious extra bullet at the start of each as displayed. Of course, this will require that every page that uses these tempaltes be similarly rewritten. -DES Talk 15:33, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Position of link in edit tools

The header section nosw says "there will be a link on the left navbar labeled Edit Title Data (third in the third group "Editing Tools")". I think it may be unwise to specify the position of the link within the group, as this is subject to change at any time the software is revised. -DES Talk 15:19, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

Length Guideline

The roughly guideline for Shortstory, Novelette, & Novella length based on the number of pages should state whether that is for hc/tp or pb. A standard pb page is probably about half the number of words of a standard hc/tp page. --JLaTondre 19:17, 14 May 2011 (UTC)

Year field

The Help_talk:Screen:EditTitle page talks about "Dates", but the actual Title Editor field is called "Year". That makes it unclear whether a full date should be entered, or just the year. It would also be better to have the help page address the specific fields using their actual titles. gclowney 03:37, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

As far as I can determine, the help page for each usage retains the title used in the entry form. For example, the help link for the Metadata section goes here (labeled "Year"), while the help link for the Content section goes here (labeled "Date"). Both match their respective titles. If you see any that don't match, please point them out, and I'll try to clarify the help page. It would be better if both were simply labeled "Date", but that's outside my abilities as a moderator. Perhaps posting a suggestion on the Community Portal would bring it to the attention of the software programmers. Thanks. Mhhutchins 04:51, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
Titles use "Year" in both the Title Record and the Title Editor, but this help page (which is linked in the Title Editor) says "Date". However, it needs more than changing the help page from "Date" to "Year" as the field requires a date, not just a year. We could explain that in the help, but seems to me the label should match what is being requested by the software. I'll see if any devs want to weigh in. -- JLaTondre (talk) 22:00, 20 August 2013 (UTC)
