Welcome!

Hello, Lori Skinner, and welcome to the ISFDB Wiki! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

Note: Image uploading isn't entirely automated. You're uploading the files to the wiki which will then have to be linked to the database by editing the publication record.

Please be careful in editing publications that have been primary verified by other editors. See Help:How to verify data#Making changes to verified pubs. But if you have a copy of an unverified publication, verifying it can be quite helpful. See Help:How to verify data for detailed information.

I hope you enjoy editing here! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will insert your name and the date. If you need help, check out the community portal, or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! -- JLaTondre (talk) 21:56, 27 February 2017 (UTC)

In The Eyes of Terror: Helen

I accepted your addition of In The Eyes of Terror: Helen, but made some changes to bring it in line with ISFDB standards:

  • Author: We credit the author as shown in the book. As the cover has "Jeff Skinner", I changed it to that vs. "Jeff B. Skinner"
  • ISBN: Only the number goes in the ISBN field. The system will handle both ISBN-10 and ISBN-13.
  • Cover Image: I added a cover image from Amazon
  • Source: When entering a publication, the source should always be specified. It is one of the fields in the entry form. As you did not select primary verification, I add a note that it is secondary sourced from Amazon. If you actually have the pub, you should primary verify it and then edit the pub to remove the note.

We do appreciate your submission. ISFDB has some conventions that need learning, but everything should be in the help links in the welcome message above. We hope you will continue to contribute. And please let us know if you have any questions (ISFDB:Help desk is a good resource for asking). -- JLaTondre (talk) 21:56, 27 February 2017 (UTC)

Jeff B. Skinner

We use the most common credit as an author's canonical name. As we had a another story under the credit of Jeff Skinner, I made that the canonical name and made Jeff B. Skinner a pseudonym of that. I entered your supplied information under the Jeff Skinner entry instead. Thanks. -- JLaTondre (talk) 21:56, 27 February 2017 (UTC)

Do you think Jeff B. Skinner would be the better canonical name? Stonecreek 10:31, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
I think it would be, given that we now have many more Jeff B. titles than Jeff titles. I will swap them. --MartyD 01:38, 2 March 2017 (UTC)

Mind Gate

I have put your submission on hold as there are some points that are unclear:

1) We have a publisher 'PublishAmerica', which I guess is the one you meant.

2) There is no price and no day/month of publication stated, also, it is stated as paperback; amazon has Nov 6, 2009 as day of publication (2009-11-06 for us), a price of $24.95, and a height of 9 inches, which characterizes it as a tp (trade paperback). Would that be correct?

3) There is a review which does sound to be a cover (or inside) praise. We wouldn't index such sort raves.

Please do leave comments here. Thanks for your submission, Stonecreek 07:19, 28 February 2017 (UTC)

yes, that is all correct. It will be published as a second addition soon. This can be finished. -Lori

Well, it seems you cancelled the submission. But as we do record different printings we'd like to add the first edition as well (I have added it relying on amazon's information). A second edition or printing is then easily to be cloned (by using the 'Clone This Pub' function on the left tool bar). Thanks for your initial submission that allowed us to add the novel.
I have also added a cover image and some notes to The Guide. Stonecreek 10:29, 1 March 2017 (UTC)

The Guide

Hello, I've approved your submission but there are some issues with it:

  • You provided an ISBN-10 which is incorrect for a post-2007 publication.
  • The size given by amazon ( 6 x 0.5 x 9 inches) is classified as "tp" in the db.
  • When the book is created via CreateSpace, the publisher is entered as the author.

The result is here, you can now upload a cover scan via the procedure indicated on top of this page (I've deleted your other attempts). Hauck 19:00, 28 February 2017 (UTC)

I've deleted the upload for The Guide as it used the cover of Alien Takeover.Hauck 20:17, 28 February 2017 (UTC)

Cynthia's Child

Hi. I accepted your submission of Cynthia's Child and added the link to the Amazon cover image as you requested. Two things needed fixing up:

  • Only enter one ISBN. If the publication gives both an ISBN-13 and an ISBN-10, use the ISBN-13. The software will automatically show the other form of the ISBN on the entry.
  • For self-published books, just use the author's name as the publisher, without adding the platform (so no "(CreateSpace)" added).

I took care of those; just something to keep in mind for the future. Thanks. --MartyD 01:42, 2 March 2017 (UTC)

Uploading images

Hello, please stick to the procedure described here to upload images (and remember to update the record as per the end of the help). There are some images that I've deleted because they didn't follow this procedure and other that were correctly uploaded where I've had to update the publication. Thanks. Hello, you did it again, please read and follow the instructions above. I've correctly done the upload for you. Hauck 09:05, 5 March 2017 (UTC)
